On 5 May 2013, 180 visitors enjoyed the inaugural Biathlon Open Day at Melbourne International Shooting Club (Fishermans Bend) the venue for the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
The aims were to publicise the new Larsen laser biathlon training system, especially for children under 12; encourage the general public to have a go, and to have targets set up to allow participants to try laser, air rifle and small bore shooting, to allow all ages and interests to be catered for. In addition, Australian Biathlon partnered with Melbourne Nordic Ski Club and Snowgum Wodonga, to allow for second and new cross country ski goods to be available.
These aims were achieved handsomely, with a second Open Day already being planned for 2014.
