Many biathletes cross train by cycling, at least one current Australian international cyclist , Chloe “Ranga” McConville, is a former biathlete. Here’s a cyclist’s view up to Lake Mountain, site of the Sprint X cross country event, pics from last week. Stunning countryside, eh? The snowmakers had been busy after these pics were taken to get plenty of white stuff for this weekend 🙂 Right now, he’s gunning for his second Tour de France win, but maybe if Cadel Evans gets sick of cycling, he can try biathlon 🙂
When the shortest day of the year rolled around, many of my cycling buddies went out on epic rides to celebrate the Winter Solstice. I, however, spent most of the day in bed and only left the house to buy fish and chips, so I thought I had better go out for a decent ride on the following day to make up for my laziness. And it turned out to be one of those great rides that really makes you appreciate being a cyclist.
My plan was to ride to Warburton, take the unsealed Acheron Way to Marysville, climb Lake Mountain then either ride the Reefton Spur back through Warburton and home (~235km) or ride the Black Spur to Healesville then home (~215km).
