Ole Einar Bjoerndalen added one more accolade on the final day of 2014 — Norway’s Athlete of the Year, as voted on by national sports journalists.
Bjoerndalen won two biathlon gold medals in Sochi, breaking the Winter Olympic career medals record with 13, one more than countryman and retired cross-country skier Bjorn Daehlie.
Bjoerndalen, 40, has said he will compete through the 2016 World Championships in Oslo.
Bjoerndalen won the Norwegian Athlete of the Year award for a second time. He also took the honor in 2002, after he won four gold medals at the Salt Lake City Olympics.
Bjoerndalen beat out cyclist Alexander Kristoff, Alpine skier Kjetil Jansrud and chess player Magnus Carlsen for the 2014 award. Carlsen, the two-time reigning World chess champion, won the award in 2013. Kristoff won two stages at the 2014 Tour de France. Jansrud won Olympic super-G gold.
