From 3-12 July, Australian Biathlon was the host of the 2015 Oceania Region Development Camp at Mt Hotham, Victoria, site of the only biathlon range in Australia.
This is first time that this camp has ever been held in Australia. Athletes aged 15-23 and coaches from Australia and New Zealand participated in this event, headed by Coach Kari Korpela (SWE), who is a member of the IBU’s prestigious Technical Committee.
The intensive program included up to two on-snow ski sessions per day, technical analysis, range practice, endurance training and other outdoor sessions. Training included a fun “soccer on skis” session, and ended with a fun Sprint competition on the final day of skiing.
In addition, there were evening sessions, which included analysis with the Scatt training system.
All in all, the Camp was a huge success, many thanks to the IBU, the IOC, Mt Hotham Resort Management, coaches, participants and especially to the support team, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes not only at the camp, but also earlier for many months to make it happen!
