Overnight, the first events for Youth/Junior World Championships (Y/JWCH) was held at Cheile Gradistei, ROU. The two races were the Women and Men Youth Individual races. The Women had been due to start at 20:00 Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), but the start was delayed twice, until the dense fog had lifted sufficiently. The Men event started shortly after the end of the Women race.
The largest Australian Team in many years is participating, with nine athletes spread across Men/Women and Youth/Junior Classes. Coach in Charge is Luca Bormolini, assisted by Wax Technician/Assistant Coach Andreas Kuppelwieser.
The clear Australian star of the day was Darcie Morton (16, Marlo VIC) who finished 16th in the Women Youth 10 km Individual event, with only three missed shots from 20. Darcie is the Women athlete representing Australia at the Winter Youth Olympic Games at Lillehammer, NOR next month.
