BIATHLON: With their competition just days away two of Australia’s brightest young biathlon prospects have taken every chance they can get to get out on the Lillehammer snow since arriving in Norway.

The duo arrived on Tuesday, skied the course on Wednesday and then were able to ski and shoot on Thursday under the bright blue skies and shining sun at Birkebeineren Stadium.
“I felt good, no problems,” Mahon said. “The sun’s out, it’s not too cold and not too warm, so perfect conditions really.”
“It was really good,” Morton added. “The course was really fast and the conditions seemed really good.”
While the duo had little trouble with the skiing aspect of the training session the wind proved to make the shooting conditions rather tricky.
“The shooting was really hard today,” said Mahon.
“The wind was coming from the top and floating down so each lane had a different wind condition and it was constantly changing.”
As they build towards their first race the pair will look to continue to train hard as they ready themselves to take on the world’s best junior biathletes in Lillehammer.
“We will be mostly training in the morning at the range and then doing some recovery at the gym or running (over the next couple of days),” said Morton.
Morton and Mahon begin their campaign on Sunday when they compete in their respective sprint events (7.5km for men and 6km for women).
They will then compete in the pursuit and single mixed relay over eight days of competition.
Before competition gets underway they will get the opportunity to march in the Opening Ceremony as a part of the 17 strong Australian Team in Lillehammer.
