Biathlon Range Development 2016-2017
The Board of Australian Biathlon announced today a major upgrade to the Whiskey Flat Biathlon Range at Mt Hotham, Victoria, under the Victorian Government’s Shooting Sports Facilities Program. The total project budget is in excess of $150,000. The range is the home of Australian Biathlon, and is the only biathlon range in Australia.
Australian Biathlon will be working closely with Mount Hotham Resort Management to build a range and surrounds which will allow international competition planned for 2017, training and racing facilities for athletes, together with disabled access.
The two year project will include:
- increase to 15 competition lanes
- widening of individual lanes to International Biathlon Union standard
- major earth works
- target infrastructure upgrade, including use of five-in-a-row biathlon target papers
- firing point upgrade
- track sealing for rollerski activities
- disabled access
Australian Biathlon President, Dr Grant Flanagan, said today:
“This is a wonderful opportunity to build something we can be proud of, that will last for generations.
Australian Biathlon remains indebted to the Victorian Government, who have supported our sport for many years and without whom this project could not have proceeded. This is an exciting time for the sport of biathlon in Australia!”.
