ABOUT AUSTRALIAN BIATHLON
Australian Biathlon is the national and internationally recognized Peak Sporting Organization in Australia for the sport of Biathlon by virtue of its recognition and affiliation with the International Biathlon Union (IBU) and the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC).
Australian Biathlon conducts and manages athlete pathways and programs from entry level of recreational/novice through to Olympic levels. As we have the overarching responsibility for National representation of the sport, Australian Biathlon engages with all levels of organizations including International Federations, Federal and State Governments, ski resorts, clubs, sport institutes as well as industry.
Strategic Focus 2014 – 2018 quadrennial
During this quadrennial the proportion of resources allocated to increase the base of entrants, at the same time focus on improving coaching capacity and education for consistent high quality programs for existing development, pathways for grassroots through to emerging and high performance athletes must be managed to ensure a strong focus on building a foundation to enable success in the following quadrennial.
Maintain avenues for Masters and recreational athletes to participate and enjoy the sport of Biathlon in Australia. To position our organization to create the capacity and resources to allow those with disabilities to participate in adaptive forms of this sport.

New Position: Director of Sport
The Board of Australian Biathlon (AB) is seeking expressions of interest for a Director of Sport till April 2018.
The Director appointed will be responsible for devising programs, conducting training and supporting our National Team and National Development Team, including facilitation, logistics, management and administration of the camps in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and other regional areas as required.
The role is to support in Australia, the National High Performance Coach so that there are year-round collegiate team events in major Australian Biathlon centres. These athletes will be expected to be in all-year training with their private coaches.
Additionally, the Director is to develop and support underpinning National grassroots and development programs, promoting the sport domestically, and supporting athlete/coach development pathways including program opportunities for masters and recreational participants. National programs for novices and development athletes is vital for Biathlon in Australia, this being the base of entrants for future Olympics. This may include planning for overseas tours appropriate for younger teenagers.
Australian Biathlon has a good representation of Masters and Recreation Athletes who will require support with National programs for training, preparation for competition and may include planning for overseas tours appropriate to this level of interest.
Our National Federation aims for the appointed Director and our Coaches to build a sense of inclusiveness for all athletes and participants no matter their level of commitment to the sport. This role will not include selection of athletes for teams, coaches or any roles involving funding, grants or distribution of equipment. Australian Biathlon has in place independent processes for these purposes.
This position is primarily for activities based in Australia. An honorarium will be offered, the amount of which will depend on the scope of activity, program delivery, and travel requirements for the successful provision of the domestic program. Where attendance at a specific International event can directly assist the Director of Sport with program delivery in Australia, some support may be available.
