Our NSW Branch recently held a weekend-long Sydney camp. It was a packed two days, with rollerskiing, shooting, dinner and fun races. The weekend catered for all levels, from those new to biathlon to Masters.
On the Saturday, there was rollerskiing/Skiking at Lane Cove National Park, a fantastic venue for the technique instruction.
The second half of the morning was dedicated to shooting training at Hornsby Rifle Club, our venue in Sydney for Australian Biathlon Association training. After lunch, coaches ran various run/shoot events. We were very pleased to welcome a great supporter of biathlon, Mary K from “Ladies Who League” to Hornsby!
Saturday evening we enjoyed a casual dinner at Via Napoli.
On Sunday we had a similar training/race program, with a sausage sizzle for lunch.
ABA Race Secretary Phillip Colebourn reports:
“There were 5 races held at our ABA NSW April 2017 Camp – four Summer Biathlon Sprint format races (two each day) plus the rollerski race on Sunday Morning.
This was an all-time record in terms of races held in NSW for a single weekend.
Congratulations to the leaders in the various competition metrics – well done. I trust you all will find the range time benchmarking particularly useful in your training and preparation for this coming Winter season.
Once again, my thanks to Paul and Toscha for running a fantastically engaging and valuable Camp for us in Sydney, I am still feeling a bit stunned from the pace of a really full two-day programme.
We must also give our thanks to Australian Biathlon for their support for this Camp.”
