The 2017 Victorian Biathlon Championships were a great success, with our three new lanes open for business!
Saturday’s event was a Mass Start, with Sunday’s race a Sprint and over 40 race entries each day.
Winner of the Blue Ribbon Open events were Men: Damon Morton (20, from Marlo VIC both days) and Women: Jill Colebourn (22, from Sydney NSW both days).
Best daily shots in the .22 category aged over 18 were Greg Kazantcev (Men Open,Saturday) and Ryan Buckley (Men Masters, Sunday) with special mention to Joshua Cullen (boys modified U13), who shot 000 each day.
The largest group of participants was the Masters, with six Men and three Women taking part, plus two Men and one Woman in the Veterans (over 50) age group.
It was fantastic to see so many Under 18s taking part, especially in the laser events!
There were 23 in the Under 19 or younger age groups, with seven in the Under 15 age group. Laser biathlon program has been running for four years now and has increased our participation, by allowing those under 12 to take part in our activities. Several of those who started in laser biathlon have now moved into .22 biathlon.
There are many, many people who worked on the day and for months beforehand, to make this event a success!
Many thanks to Mount Hotham Resort Management for the grooming and signage support, and to the Victorian Department of Sport of Recreation for their ongoing support, plus support for our range development. Big thanks to Technical Delegate Rod Clutterbuck, plus all the coaches, officials and volunteers who pulled ropes, counted penalties and numerous other jobs, which made our weekend a fantastic time for all!
