Last Sunday, ten Australian Biathlon (AB) members took part in the Annual City of Melbourne 50 Metre Teams Championship.
This classic Target Rifle event was held at Melbourne International Shooting Club (MISC), Fisherman’s Bend, which is a regular training venue for Melbourne-based biathletes. Matches took place on the electronic range, which was upgraded for the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. Teams from various parts of Victoria attended, with each team shooting sixty rounds, with a maximum potential score of 600.
Biathletes took part in three full biathlon teams, with Emma Croser, the best AB Senior (Over 21) shot, taking aim with her target rifle in a MISC Team. All biathletes were in teams that finished in the top half of the field.
The best AB Junior (Under 21) shot was Jethro Mahon, who was one third of the highest placed Junior team, along with his sister Gabby, and Jeremy Flanagan.
Special mention to Leah Walsh, who took part in her first Target Rifle competition ever yesterday, having taken up biathlon only recently.
