Victorian Rollerski/Skike Championships 2015 | Results

Yesterday the Victorian Rollerski/Skike Championships were held in pleasant autumn weather at Lake Mountain Alpine Resort.

Forty competitors enjoyed the warm morning in either the 4 km or 10 km up the road among the glorious mountain ash forest, and included participants from RUS, SWE and the UK, as well as members of the Victorian Junior Cross Country Squad. Participants made their way up the hill on either rollerskis, Skikes or rollerblades.

Organiser was, once again, Andrew Paul, Australia’s first Olympian in Biathlon.

Youngest participants were regular laser biathlon attendees Christian Mahon and Gordon Mann, who tackled the 4 km up the hill. Winner of the 10 km Men event was biathlete Greg Kazantcev. Other biathletes participating included Dion Richardson, Henrik Forsberg, Jethro Mahon, Robert Catto-Smith and Hamish McLean.

After the event, Hamish McLean and Giles Richardson ran a Come & Try laser biathlon event, which was much enjoyed by all.

The 2015 Victorian Rollerski Championship is on this Sunday May 3 at Lake Mountain. All skill levels and modes of rolling are catered for with 4km and 10km events and categories for Classic, Freestyle, Skike and Rollerblade. Entries are available at Cascades Ticket Box on the day before 10:00am. Start time is at 10:30am; 10km from the ticket box and 4km from Arnolds Gap.

Hotting up: weather and laser biathlon Downunder

Alexandra Secondary College Students take aim with laser biathlon rifles, much harder when you have just finished a circuit on rollerskis!

Local Australian Biathlon members spearheaded the Alexandra College Laser Biathlon week recently. Greg Paul and Hamish McLean teamed up with teacher George Nadj to run a week of events, on different days.

During the course of the week, nearly 200 students tried rollerskiing and laser biathlon.

One high point was the Alexandra Secondary College/Australian Biathlon Summer Rollerski Championship, where participants were split into several groups.

Best Primary school participant: Kayla Nadj

Best Junior Secondary Boy: Lachlan Imgram-Smith

Best Junior Secondary Girls: Himalj Collins

Best Senior Secondary Boy: Kallagun Wilson

Best Junior Secondary Girl: Himalj Collins

Laser Biathlon at Lake Mountain

Lake Mountain recently hosted a successful laser biathlon event, with two dozen participants.

Founding Australian Biathlon member Greg Paul, with assistance from other Australian Biathlon members, gave lessons on shooting to a number of visitors, including from Alexandra School Ski Club.

Lake Mountain Bullfight Charge | results

Australian Biathlon is very pleased to have supported Lake Mountain with its annual Bullfight Charge today.

Our Vice-President, John Mahon, assisted with timekeeping via the Webscorer package, which we have been using successfully since last year.

In the blue ribbon Open 8 km events, biathlete Mark Raymond won the Mens race, with AUS XC Team member Casey Wright taking out the Womens title.

Other 8 km biathlete section winners included Paul Connor (M Over 50), Toscha Stopar (W Over 35), Harry Jacobs (M Under 18) and Ruth Healy-McFarlane (W Under 18).

In the 4 km event, Gabby and Christian Mahon each took home a gold medal. A special mention to Gordon Mann, who has been doing laser biathlon, and had his very first go on XC skis today before taking part in this event!

Fast and Female @ Lake Mountain

We are very pleased to be able to support Fast & Female, for the third year.

Last Sunday, two “Honorary Female” biathletes, Giles Richardson and Hamish McLean, ran a laser biathlon session at Lake Mountain. They were assisted by Ruth Healy-McFarlane, who took time out from her Year 12 studies to help out.

There was too much snow falling for an outdoor event (!) so the sesh was held inside.

Fast & Female Manager Allison McArdle reports:

“We had 24 at the event, ages 6 – 55 and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Giles and Hamish did a great job and Ruth was handy with her assistance!”

The Victorian Rollerski Championships were held at Lake Mountain on Sunday 11 May 2014. Pictured at the start area is the 10 km distance group, a second group started at 4 km from the top of Lake Mountain, VIC. There were wet conditions everywhere, it was foggy at the top, but spirits were not dampened! Events were organised and run by Andrew Paul of Lake Mountain Management, Australia’s first Winter Olympic Games biathlete (Sarajevo, 1984). The event was followed by a laser biathlon demonstration – indoors 🙂

Vic Rollerski Champs Results

Several biathletes competed in the Victorian Rollerski Championships at Lake Mountain yesterday, with participants maintaining their sense of humour, despite the wet conditions. Race results below, winners were Nick Montgomery (Men) and Casey Wright (Women), both members of the Australian Cross Country Ski Team. A laser biathlon demonstration was held afterwards, with several of the race participants having a go for the first time, including several members of the Victorian Cross Country Ski Squad – and their parents 🙂 The day was arranged by Australia’s first-ever biathlete, Andrew Paul, who manages events at Lake Mountain. Participating also was his wife and fellow Olympian Sandra Paul.
